“Think like an artist, change the world.”

Artist and presenter,
working for more inspiring futures.

hello>

Through my little production house, Momo, I make creative experiences to energise the way we see the possibilities in the world around us. My work is driven by my values.

encouragement

Momo:zo helps organisations get much more effectively excited about crisis and change.

Through uniquely entertaining creative experiences, workshops and hosting, I help leaders bring alive ideas and face difficult stuff much more positively. I and my brilliant team will unlock new ways of seeing the uncertainties of environmental and societal shift, opening the way into cultural literacy for an unfolding century.

consciousness

Unsee The Future is my idiosyncratic research cast exploring the big themes that make up our era of fearsome unrealities.

Starting with a foundational look at the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals from a very not boring perspective, the show demonstrates the place of art’s practices and thinking to understand what’s really going on around us and with in us. Along the way, meeting “artists, solarpunks and changemakers reimagining the stories we think we’re in.”

theatre

Momo:tempo is my terribly eclectic music production outfit and the heart of my personal creative life.

Making music to take you “beyond the club and onto the theatre”, it is the place I’ve learned so many of my storytelling experience skills. A big, creative, playful sound with influences from all across electronic music’s adventurous spectrum, here you can discover the albums, pieces, projects and shows fizzing around inside me when I’m talking to your board.

As a storyteller, strategic thinker and specialist host, I draw on a lifetime of work as a music maker, performer, designer, writer and sensemaker. With one foot in the world of business and another in the world of the arts, my values have given me a worldview and motivation – and richly broad experience to be a creative influencer in any room.

In the unsettling age of climate change and cultural transformation, I use my creative confidence, experience and insights to help leaders get their people more practically excited about crisis and change, and about alternative, more values-driven ways forward.
I am the bloke from Momo:tempo, the voice of Unsee The Future, creative director of Momo:zo, member of the Association of Sustainability Practitioners, trustee for Arts By The Sea and author of the forthcoming book UTF! How to think like an artist and change the world.
I am currently developing The Shape of Things To Hum – “an electro cabaret musical to end the end of the world”.

“My personal passion as an artist and creative business bloke is to connect more of us to the possibilities found in the changes being demanded of us in the 21st century.”

My resume’s personal statement  is this:

Conscious, encouragement, theatre. Three words I’ve come to know as my core values – who I am. But they’re more than just an MO for Momo – together, they are a living system.

Connecting people to bigger context can be a significant encouragement to them, while big ideas usually get enabled by rooting them in super-local truths – but being able to pull focus between these dramatically different scales is what breathes life into the possibilities and this is done by creating new experiences. What ifs. Wows. Art, understanding the data of climate and environment by turning it into emotional truth.

To transform history, we have to bring it alive. To transition to healthier futures, we have to be able to picture them. This will take stories and magic, woven from discernment and vision, to excite, combine and activate way more of us as leaders. Wherever I show up, I’ve been told often that I embody much of this. But I don’t want to see more lone heroes. I want to find and enable the storytellers and troupes who’ll inspire whole new ways of seeing right where they are.

Nora Bateson talks of “an affection for life.” This fills me with love, heartbreak and hope for our beautiful, irreplaceable home in space.

> Key strengths

I am an encourager, energiser and listener. A broad creative generalist, I’m an effective sensemaker, helping people understand and feel connections in new ways. I’m a production detail nerd but no control freak. I’m an artistic explorer and researcher, but a grounded team figure and organiser. A confident communicator and natural entertainer, I make people laugh and I help people listen.

> Career skills

While I practice many skills as a music producer, writer and performer in my art, I trained as a graphic designer and have learned that an experienced creative director is as much diplomat as strategist as narrative problem solver. I bring with me technical confidence in design, audio and video software and my early time in magazine production has given me a strong understanding of editorial structure and writing. I’m an excellent speaker, interviewer and live event host.

As a passionate ideas connector, I also bring with me a strong grasp of ESG issues, themes, and technicalities. All of which combines into a motivated understanding of storytelling’s vital place in the era of crisis.
