Talking Distance:

Personal walks of art, safely shared with Timo Peach.

What is the place that’s most inspired you, or to which you would return to  feel safe?

Four years ago, I was commissioned by Arts By The Sea festival to devise a lockdown podcast, and it’s still one of my favourite pieces of work. One of these guests is now the creative director of the festival, another hosted the main stage this year, I walked to the launch chatting to another and all of them are still making marks and events and experiences all over the place they love to call home as artists. Between their testimonies, they paint a gently wonderful picture of Bournemouth and why they live and work here.

The interviews.

All eight guests took me to a waypoint where we recorded the audio interviews, and brought an artefact that symbolised something about their practice. We also shared little video trailers every day to promote the episodes.

Find out about the latest Arts By The Sea festival

Since this one off lockdown series, much as I loved it, the festival has leant into it’s status as a firmly outdoor experience and the show didn’t justify being revived. One day, I may bring it back myself and have permission to – but meanwhile, I continue to support some dear mates working valiantly to put on our annual celebration of public arts and have become a board member for Arts By The Sea.
